Ανησυχία προκαλούν οι αναφορές που έρχονται από τη Βενεζουέλα, καθώς κάτοικοι του Καράκας κάνουν λόγο για ισχυρές εκρήξεις που ακούστηκαν σε διάφορα σημεία της πρωτεύουσας, ενώ την ίδια ώρα καταγράφεται αυξημένη δραστηριότητα αεροσκαφών στον εναέριο χώρο της πόλης. Οι πληροφορίες παραμένουν συγκεχυμένες και οι αρχές δεν έχουν προχωρήσει σε επίσημη ενημέρωση.

Σύμφωνα με το αμερικανικό τηλεοπτικό δίκτυο CBS News, ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος Ντόναλντ Τραμπ έδωσε εντολή για επιθέσεις στο έδαφος της Βενεζουέλας, στρατιωτικών εγκαταστάσεων συμπεριλαμβανομένων. Ο Νικολάς Μαδούρο κήρυξε τη χώρα σε κατάσταση έκτακτης ανάγκης.
Αυτόπτες μάρτυρες είπαν στο Reuters ότι στην πρωτεύουσα της Βενεζουέλας ακούγονται ισχυρές εκρήξεις και έχει διακοπεί η ηλεκτροδότηση στο νότιο τμήμα της κοντά σε μια μεγάλη στρατιωτική βάση, ενώ είναι ορατή μια στήλη καπνού.
Κρότοι εκρήξεων συνέχιζαν να ακούγονται γύρω στις 02:15 (08:15 ώρα Ελλάδας). Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες που δεν έχουν επιβεβαιωθεί μέχρι στιγμής, βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη χερσαία επιχείρηση των αμερικανικών δυνάμεων στο έδαφος της Βενεζουέλας.
